The Music department is housed in the Hendricks Center for the Arts (409 Pleasant St.), a recently renovated facility that contains faculty and staff offices, multiple rehearsal and practice spaces, classrooms, and lockers for instrumental storage.

Located between Beloit College campus and downtown Beloit, the Music department bridges the college and the larger community, offering students the opportunity to extend their musical studies and experiences beyond the classroom.

Music Scholarships

Beloit offers two scholarships to incoming music-interested students for up to $5,000 per year. To retain the scholarship, students are expected to participate in a performance ensemble or pursue lessons. Learn more about these music scholarships.

Student Organizations

The Music Club promotes music education on-campus, provides a practice space for students, and coordinates student and non-student performances on and off-campus.

Coughy Haus (C-Haus) has regular music entertainment throughout the year for students on the weekends, including both on-campus and off-campus groups.

Entrepreneurship

Get involved with the Center for Entrepreneurship (CELEB) to put your skills and passions to work. In particular, use the Maple Tree Studio to record and mix music after some training.

Community Outreach

A Beloit College student teaches violin lessons to a child of the community. Join Turtle Tunes and teach guitar, piano, or string instruments for credit at Todd Elementary, located within walking distance.

Or, lead interactive music activities with preschool children at Little Turtles’ Playhouse, a college-affiliated daycare adjacent to campus.

Student also can pursue off-campus performance opportunities and paid gigs.

Concerts

On-campus, music ensembles and students perform concerts every semester.

Off-campus, other ensembles have regular concerts in the Beloit area, such as the Wisconsin Baroque Ensemble which offers at least one concert per season at Beloit College Eaton Chapel. Otherwise, Beloit’s proximity to Madison, Rockford, Chicago, and Milwaukee means there are many opportunities to find music you want to hear.

Off-Campus Study

Beloit’s study abroad program has many options for students interested in music to further their studies. Recent students have studied in Sussex, England; Cork, Ireland; Sydney, Australia; Vienna, Austria; Christchurch, New Zealand; and Chicago, Illinois.

Work Study

The Music department employs students to help with logistics, publicity, ushering, stage management, and other tasks.

Instruments, Storage, and Practice Spaces

The department offers instrument storage lockers, loan instruments for lessons or ensembles, and practice rooms in the Hendricks Center for the Arts.  Students interested in these offerings should contact the Music Department Secretary.
